FAT-DISSOLVING

Fat-dissolving injections are an effective, non-surgical way to create a more defined, aesthetically pleasing body by eliminating the fat cells that accumulate in problem areas. While diet and exercise can reduce fat in problem areas, fat-dissolving injections offer a non-invasive solution that targets a specific area and works to dissolve and destroy fat cells permanently.

How do the Fat Dissolving Injections Work?

Our nurse administers a series of injections to the targeted area. This non-surgical process takes place during a short appointment and does not require any incisions.

The medication is a compound containing a synthesised deoxycholic acid and phosphatidylcholine, similar to that found in the digestive system. Phosphatidylcholine with deoxycholic acid (PC/DA) is widely used to reduce localised fat deposits with mild adverse effects. PC/DA works by breaking down fats in our digestive system, and when injected into fatty areas, it breaks down fat cells. The body then absorbs and expels the fat through the lymphatic system as a waste product. The result is a slimming of the treated area, and the destroyed fat cells will not regenerate.

Phosphatidylcholine, Deoxycholic acid (PC/DC) Consent PC/DC is a cosmetic injection indicated for improvement in the appearance of submental fullness associated with submental fat in adults.

The results of PC/DC are not immediate. At your first treatment visit you will receive a series of injections in the submental area. At the time of injection and for several days following the injections you will have swelling in the submental area.

Over the course of the next month following your injection PC/DC will cause the fat cells to diminish in the area treated. If needed, another treatment may be performed at one month or later after your initial treatment.

A series of treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results, and these will occur at no sooner than the one-month interval. Your doctor will decide the appropriate number of treatment sessions and the amount of PC/DC you will need at each session.

Side Effects of PC/DC may include: bruising, swelling, numbness, induration, marginal mandibular nerve injury, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), bleeding, tenderness or discomfort, and tissue necrosis or redness at the site of injection, alopecia (small areas of hair loss at injections sites)

Unsatisfactory results: There is a possibility of an unsatisfactory result from injections of PC/DC. The procedure may result in unacceptable visible deformities or asymmetry in the treatment area.

Alternatives:

As explained not all submental fullness will respond to PC/DC. Other alternative treatments are liposuction to the area, a neck lift and/or platysmoplasty procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions about fat dissolving injections

Is there any downtime after treatment?

It is normal to experience pain, some redness and swelling after the treatment. This response is the body’s natural reaction to the broken-down fat cells and rejecting them, so they are expelled permanently. In most cases, any swelling or discomfort will subside after 1-2 weeks. Most people will return to work after a few days.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of fat-dissolving treatments required will vary from patient to patient. You should only need 3-4 treatments approximately six weeks apart to see lasting results in most cases.

When will I notice results?

Most patients will notice changes at around the 4-6 week mark. Once the fat stores have dissolved, the results are permanent.
